Kirk Saarloos is entering his second season as the Horned Frogs’ head man, and he’s already working to defend a conference title and his Big 12 Coach of the Year accolades.
The laid-back California native has brought in a slew of transfers and an elite freshman class to counter the large amount of leadership and talent the Frogs lost to graduation and the MLB Draft this summer. He’s also working without close friend and mentor Bill Mosiello for the first time, after Mosiello left to become the coach at Ohio State.
Former Nevada coach T.J. Bruce joined the staff this offseason to fill the void left by Mosiello, and he brings with him a similar aggressive mindset, both at the plate and on the base paths.
Through about six weeks of practices and two scrimmages — one against the Texas Rangers Instructional League team and one against McLennan Community College — and a three-game Purple and White World Series, the Frogs are putting the finishing touches on a productive fall camp.
After multiple visits to practice, talking with folks around the program and watching the team during both scrimmages, here’s what we know about TCU as the Frogs wrap up their fall.
