After a summer of discontent, or maybe just malcontents, TCU and Texas Tech will finally have the opportunity to hash out their differences on the field Saturday, when the Red Raiders travel to Fort Worth as part of Fox’s Big Noon Saturday.
If you are on social media, especially Twitter, you probably already know that this rivalry game has a little extra juice and that there is more than just the Saddle Trophy at stake when these two teams meet.
After TCU recruiting coordinator Bryan Carrington made some disparaging (though not necessarily untrue) comments regarding Texas Tech’s new NIL deal — which is paying football and basketball athletes $25,000 across their four years in Lubbock — Red Raiders fans clapped back with authority. Things only got more heated when TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati eliminated most single-game ticket sales for the Texas Tech game, smartly working to limit the usual influx of “Raider Power” cheers.
Why fans are upset at an AD protecting his stadium makes no sense, but, well, here we are.
