FORT WORTH — No matter what happens Monday night, TCU running back Emari Demercado will head to the next phase in his life with a huge leg up.
Six years of college football, five of them at TCU, have allowed Demercado to complete work on a Master’s degree in business analytics. He’s humble and a hard worker, and understands what college football has done for him.
“I have something under my belt that nobody can ever take from me,” Demercado said.
He has also reached the climax of a story that seems pulled from a movie script.
You see, when Demercado steps out the front door of his family’s house in Inglewood, Calif., he sees Sofi Stadium. He will make his first visit there next week when the Horned Frogs play Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
He might do it as No. 3 TCU’s starting running back after a career-best performance in the Fiesta Bowl.
Even if Kendre Miller (knee) can start, Demercado will be a central player for the TCU offense in arguably the biggest game in program history. A win would give his story a Hollywood ending.
