SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The juiciest part of the Max Duggan story this season is that he wasn’t even No. 3 TCU’s starting quarterback for the opening game.
He hopped into the lineup in the third quarter of the opener, finishing off Colorado and embarking on a 12-game winning streak that propelled TCU into the College Football Playoff.
The Horned Frogs take on No. 2 Michigan on Saturday in the Fiesta Bowl, and their hopes will be pinned to Duggan, the Heisman Trophy runner-up.
Standing on the sideline will be the flip side of the Duggan story, the Wally Pipp of the 2022 college football season, Chandler Morris.
Morris relegated Duggan to clipboard duty in fall camp and started Sept. 2 at Colorado, but was injured in the second half.
The rest is TCU history.
Morris, though, isn’t history.
