LOS ANGELES — Sonny Dykes was calm, collected and folksy during the head coaches’ press conference Sunday morning. In other words, he was his normal, authentic self.
He and Georgia coach Kirby Smart answered questions for over half an hour, talking about their teams, complimenting each other, bantering about Shaq and Kobe and how often they argue with their wives.
But as the questions continued, a theme began to emerge for what Dykes wanted to discuss. Multiple times, TCU’s first-year coach mentioned mental health, both of players and coaches, as being something the sport needs to continue to have concern for as the landscape shifts.
