INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The TCU faithful have probably seen it by now: Former coach Gary Patterson, in his first season in exile from the program he built, became emotional during an exclusive interview with Newy Scruggs that aired Thursday night on Channel 5.
It was Patterson’s first interview about how his TCU tenure ended last season, and only days before the No. 3 Horned Frogs play Monday in the College Football National Championship against No. 1 Georgia.
Oh, he’d been asked by Frogs Today, dating to the launch of our site, but he declined by saying that Texas coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t let his assistant coaches talk to the media. Talking now might suggest he won’t be back with the Longhorns after one season as the special assistant to the head coach.
Patterson still wants to be a head coach. Listening to the interview, he’s still dealing with the end of his two-decade run as the Frogs’ head coach.
