TCU’s coaching staff has done an excellent job locking down talent in DFW, and they flashed that skill again Friday as four-star safety and Arlington native Jamel Johnson committed to the Horned Frogs.

Johnson, previously a Texas commit, took an official visit to TCU last weekend. He decommitted from Texas in early November.
Johnson is the 23rd commitment for TCU’s 2023 class, and the seventh four-star recruit. He’s rated as the No. 27 safety and No. 53 player in Texas for the class of 2023. He is a highly sought after safety in this class, holding 40 offers. Beyond Texas and TCU, Johnson also boasted offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and USC, to name a few.
Frogs Today’s David Beaudin caught up with Johnson shortly after his visit to check in.
“The coaching staff, the players, it was just a vibe,” Johnson said. “They made it feel like home. They made me feel like I was wanted.”
TCU is loading up on secondary talent in the 2023 class. The Frogs landed a commitment from Channing Canada, the No. 1 JUCO cornerback in the country on Thursday to go along with three-star cornerback Vernon Glover Jr.
Safeties Javeon Wilcox, Montana Warren and Jordan Lester are also a part of this class, giving the Frogs six defensive backs.
TCU is building momentum at the right time, as the early signing period begins Wednesday.
With the addition of Johnson, TCU’s class is currently No. 18 in the country according to 247 Sports.
